The reports concern a severely enlarged profile Temp folder during sign-in and an update failure displaying 0x80070050. These observations do not establish that every slow sign-in or update error is caused by temporary files.

  1. Save your work, close applications and installers, and make sure Windows is not installing an update.
  2. Open Settings > System > Storage. On Windows 11, review Cleanup recommendations and its temporary-file category; on Windows 10, open Temporary files or Disk Cleanup.
  3. Review the selected categories before removal. Keep Downloads, personal files and the previous Windows installation unless their separate removal is intended and backed up.
  4. Remove only the reviewed temporary-file category. Do not delete an entire user profile or AppData folder.
  5. Restart and repeat the original sign-in or update once. The historical reports manually cleared %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp; they do not justify deleting unidentified folders or bypassing locked-file protections.

Compare the same sign-in timing or update attempt with its recorded baseline. If cleanup changes nothing, stop repeating it and investigate the actual failure. Deletion has no automatic rollback; preserve anything you may need before removing it.
