This is a reported device-isolation workaround for a controller/USB-audio trigger with Intel Smart Sound Technology involved. Disabling that audio device can also remove its microphone or audio functions.

  • BSOD when connecting a PS5 controller/USB audio device
  1. Open Device Manager
  2. Locate the Intel Smart Sound Technology device
  3. Disable that device
  4. Restart Windows
  5. Reconnect and test the controller

Reported outcome: The author reported that the controller worked and the problem was solved.

Record the exact device and its original state. Re-enable the same device if the controller test changes nothing or the lost audio function is needed.
