Use this only when autounattend.xml is unintended and demonstrably belongs to the setup media/root being used. An intentional organizational answer file needs its owner’s correction.

  • The in-place upgrade ignored or conflicted with intended setup parameters and failed.
  1. Moved autounattend.xml out of the media/root path so Windows Setup would not automatically consume it, then reran Setup.

Preserve the original file in a separate location and record where it came from. Return it there to undo this test; do not delete answer files from unrelated media.
