The source case reports SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR when VirtualBox was started and recovery after updating VirtualBox. It does not identify a universally affected or fixed version, so the stop code alone is not enough to select this procedure.

  1. Save work, shut down virtual machines and preserve their configuration and disk files before changing virtualization software.
  2. Record the installed VirtualBox release and Windows host version. Obtain a supported Windows-host release from Oracle’s official VirtualBox site.
  3. Close VirtualBox, run the official installer and follow its update prompts. Restart the host when requested. Do not disable Windows security features or virtualization protections as a generic workaround.
  4. Start the same virtual machine and repeat the operation that produced the stop error.

Confirm the same workload completes without the original stop error. Keep the installer/version record and VM backup. If a compatible current release still crashes, preserve the dump and VirtualBox logs and investigate that specific failure; repeating updates does not establish the cause.
